The test
STEP 1

Insert line into oil dipstick tube

STEP 2

Fill testing vial with activator

STEP 3

Pull air through the activator solution

STEP 4

Inspect colour of activator solution

ExhaustIQ colour scale from deep blue (healthy) through green to yellow (worn)

Blue means a healthy engine. The further toward yellow, the more exhaust is getting past the rings.

The science

Why this works

As an engine wears it loses compression. The seals around the piston deteriorate and exhaust gets in behind.

Exhaust begins accumulating in the bottom of your engine. Elevated exhaust concentration is a strong indicator of poor engine health.

The chemistry

Proprietary Exhaust Fluid

We've designed a fluid that reacts to certain levels of exhaust concentration. The higher the concentration the faster it changes colour.

A new vehicle typically has minimal exhaust buildup, but poor maintenance or heavy driving can cause engines to wear out much faster than expected.

Add-on

Add a head gasket test for $10

The Ultimate Engine Kit includes 3 head gasket tests along with the 3 blow-by tests. A leak on your head gasket will produce CO2 in your cooling system. The test is easy and operates similar to the blow-by test.

Although the fluids look the same they have different sensitivities to CO2. Your crankcase always has traces of CO2, your cooling system should not have any traces of CO2.
